Nakhon Nayok, Thailand, 17 December 2019: Huge congratulations to Iain’s son Ollie Roberts for securing full playing status on the 2020 All Thailand Golf Tour.
Ollie carded an even-par 71 in the final round of Qualifying School Final Stage at Watermill Golf Club & Resort in Nakhon Nayok to finish well inside the top 40 players who earned tour cards for next year.
The success caps a satisfying year for Ollie in which he spent much of his time on the China Golf Association’s China Tour, with his best result coming at the Beijing Open where he finished joint ninth. He also made headlines on the PGA Tour China by winning the Monday Qualifier for the Guangzhou Open.
Says Ollie: “It’s great news going into 2020 is that I have retained my card for the CGA China Tour while also qualifying for full status on the All Thailand Golf Tour. Having status on these two tours gives me a total of 22 guaranteed events that I can enter and play. I will also be playing at qualifying school for the PGA Tour China in March.
“My intention is to focus on the events in China and build towards graduating out of China and moving onto a higher level tour for 2021. This season I have produced some of my lowest scores in tournament play and managed to pick up a couple of small wins. This has been encouraging for me as I believe that a tournament victory is around the corner in 2020 and I am excited to put the pieces together and achieve this.
“My off-season plan is based around a few minor technical changes, a lot of work in the gym and lots of time on the golf course.”
Well done, Ollie, from everyone at IRGS and good luck in 2020!
